What Actually Happens in a First Hypnotherapy Session
Most people arrive at their first session carrying a quiet worry: that they will lose control, or that nothing will happen at all. Neither is true. A first session is, above all, a conversation.
We begin by talking. What brings you here, what you have already tried, what a good outcome would feel like in your daily life. This is not small talk — the words you use to describe your difficulty become the raw material of the work itself.
Then comes the part people are curious about. I guide you into a deeply relaxed, focused state — something between daydreaming and the drowsy moments before sleep. You hear everything. You can open your eyes, move, or stop at any moment. Trance is not something done to you; it is something we do together.
In that state, the conscious mind softens its grip, and we can speak to the part of you that actually runs the pattern — the part that reaches for the habit, that braces for the panic, that replays the worry at 3 a.m.
We close with a few minutes of conversation about what you noticed, and you leave with something practical: a recording, a breathing cue, a small ritual. The work continues between sessions, gently.
“The mind, once it feels safe, already knows how to heal.”
